Peace-Meal Dinners aim to create space for sharing food and recognising the daily efforts of peacebuilders and communities in nourishing peace. မိတ်ဆုံစားပွဲ စကားဝိုင်းဖလှယ်ပွဲ Peace-Meal Dinner For Myanmar is about connection through sharing food.
မိတ်ဆုံစားပွဲ စကားဝိုင်းဖလှယ်ပွဲ recognises the tireless, everyday peacebuilding efforts across the Myanmar Australian Community, and celebrates the humility, courage and strength of the people of Myanmar at this dire time of military violence since the 2021 coup.
Peace-Meal's Sophia Htwe was host and organiser of Naan Wa Namak, alongside Tania Miletic. Sophia with Ko developed the theme 'မိတ်ဆုံစားပွဲ စကားဝိုင်းဖလှယ်ပွဲ' about coming together with a meal to create a wonderful experience for all.
မိတ်ဆုံစားပွဲ စကားဝိုင်းဖလှယ်ပွဲ means a lot to the people of Myanmar. It evokes and signifies coming together. It evokes the nostalgia of home and the power of sharing food to support bonding and trust.
During the evening Sophia led reflections, we enjoyed music, sharing stories and nourished our minds, spirits as well as our stomaches!
The event is part of Peace-Meal Peacebuilding, co-hosted by Alternatives to Violence Victoria. Funded by the Jan de Voogd Trust. We met on the unceded lands of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
